Jimbaran is an appealing fishing town and tourist destination which is always a delightful place to visit. Not too long ago, the locality was nothing more than a sleepy fishing village which only contained a few residents. Today by contrast, the hand of globalisation has transformed this idyllic haven into a popular visitor attraction that has still retained its rustic charm.

There is no doubt that Jimbaran’s beach is one of its strongest points, with powder-soft sands and gentle waves enveloped by the balmy tropical climate. Swimming here is an excellent option as the environs are considered to be a secure environment for the aquatic pastime. A local attraction is the breathtaking sunsets which may be enjoyed here, perhaps with a refreshing tropical cocktail drink in hand.

Naturally, no excursion to this town would be complete without visiting the local fish market. Many of Bali’s exclusive restaurants purchase their seafood requirements at this market, which offers an amazing selection of fish and crustaceans freshly caught and ripe for cooking. To observe the catch of the day, it is best to arrive early in the morning when the bounty of the ocean is brought in.

The quaint Jimbaran town is an attraction in itself with its multitude of small streets and alleyways. A typical traditional Balinese enclave, this appealing town is a delightful place for a leisurely stroll. The residents are pleasant and welcoming, which adds much to the lure of this charming locality.

One of the town’s key attractions is its splendid array of seafood restaurants, which draws the attention of many visitors. The seafood is very fresh indeed as typically you will have the opportunity to select your own meal from the fish, shrimp, crab, squid, lobster and other oceanic creatures in the extensive selection featured within the tanks of each restaurant.

Surfing is a popular activity here, where you will find excellent conditions. To indulge in this exciting water pursuit, you must hire a boat and travel a short distance to the surf breaks, which will provide exemplary surfing conditions to hang ten in style without wiping out (much).

The natural beauty that Bali is famous for owes much to its varied terrain. The island’s numerous beautiful aquatic features of lakes, waterfalls, rivers and streams are as well known as its beaches and Gitgit Waterfall is one such beauty spot. To see water cascading down a green wooded hillside of a tropical rainforest is one of the most attractive sights anywhere. Gitgit Waterfall, part of the Gitgit river system in northern Bali, 10 km from Singaraja town and 70 km from Denpasar, is one of the most visited places in Bali on account of the elegant plume of water dropping 35 meters straight down from the edge of a cliff into a pebble lined pool below.

It is relatively easy to hike to Gitgit Waterfall as it is about 500 meters downhill off the main road and the access route is well defined and signposted. The best time to visit it would be during the dry season between May and October when it is not dangerous to bathe under the waterfall as the water flow is generally less than during the wet season. There is also less likelihood of dangerous debris rushing down the hillside. Gitgit during the dry season is an ideal location to enjoy a dip in the pool below the falls, relax in the cool water just listening to the sound of water falling and gurgling away. However the waterfall is at its best during the wet months from November to April when the cascade is at its most spectacular and the water is really cold. Local legend has it that honeymooners should not swim in it as separation is inevitable if they do so. This is perhaps hinting at the danger of swimming under any waterfall the height of Gitgit. The thunderous roar of the waterfall is what greets visitors even before it comes into view and the first glimpses of Gitgit through the trees are always spectacular especially with the sun glinting off the falling water.
